Summer: Trekking

The magnificent mountains that surround Val di Sole are a paradise for all those who enjoy hiking and walking. The unforgettable landscapes offer a wide variety of itineraries and routes including easy walks or high mountain hiking, each with numerous difficulty levels, therefore both expert hikers who enjoy long, challenging trails and all those who aren’t quite in shape will be able to find trails that suit their preparation level.

All of the SAT (Società degli Alpinisti Tridentini) trails are well marked with red and white stripes that are painted on the rocks located along all trails. These trails can be found starting from the bottom of the valley at 700 meters, and all the way up to the highest peaks at 4000 meters.

Discover the breathtaking views from the Brenta Dolomites located in the southwest part of the valley, the Ortles-Cevedale mountain range to the north and the Adamello Presanella mountain range to the west. You can head off on your own and take one of the many lifts that are open during the summer season or you can sign-up for an excursion in complete safety with an Alpine Mountain Guide as you walk among amazing peaks, admire the surreal beauty of a glacier or enjoy the reflection of a blue sky in one of the many mountain lakes in the valley.

Both the clothing and the equipment that you will need to take with you, will greatly vary according to the season, the height, weather conditions and the length of your itinerary.

You need to carefully choose the equipment that you will be taking with you. It is important that you do not take a backpack with excessive weight with you while you are walking or hiking; depending on the length of your itinerary, your backpack shouldn’t weigh more than 5-8 kg.

RECOMMENDED EQUIPMENT:

  • Warm clothing, dress in layers;
  • Hiking boots (gym shoes are not recommended);
  • Gloves, cap and a change of dry clothing;
  • Water bottle and water
  • Food supplies/snacks
  • A small first aid kit
  • Sleeping bag liner (mandatory for an overnight stay in a mountain hut, can also be purchased at the hut)
  • Small items (flashlight, sunglasses, sunscreen lotion)
  • Maps of the area

At the Dimaro and Folgarida Information Offices you will find the following brochure with detailed descriptions of various trekking itineraries in the valley “TREKKING among the mountain huts in the Stelvio National Park and the Adamello Brenta Nature Park”. The following maps are also recommended: KOMPASS 095 Val di Sole, Pejo e Rabbi 1:35.000, the excursion guide “Val di Sole, Peio e Rabbi” ed. Kompass 976 and the KOMPASS 073 Gruppo di Brenta 1:50.000 map. (www.kompass.it)
